Construction Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Commissioning Support Specialist to join our team at Wanzek Construction. As a Commissioning Support Specialist, you will assist in the planning, installation, testing, and repair of construction-related systems and components.

• Assist in the planning and layout of construction projects, including the installation and testing of various systems and components.
• Use hand and power tools to fit and install materials and components, and assist in the repair of fixtures, apparatus, and equipment.
• Measure, cut, and bend materials with varying degrees of supervision, and assist in the installation of systems and components.
• Assist in the lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during installation, and load, transport, and unload materials and equipment as needed.
• Perform minor maintenance and cleaning activities on craft workers' tools and equipment, and clean work areas and restock supplies and materials as necessary.
• Participate in all safety-related processes and programs, including pre-job work planning and safety discussions, and identify safety hazards and take corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate them.
• Report all accidents and near misses to supervisors, and participate in investigation processes as needed.
• Understand and respond appropriately to safety hazards and warning devices, and follow established safety rules and regulations.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills, and coordinate work with other crafts and coworkers on the job.
• Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities, and produce quality work that meets the requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
• Learn to read and understand plans and specifications, including P&IDs, ISOs, schedules, and diagrams, and visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• Assist in planning, installing, and repairing systems in accordance with plans and specifications, and assist journeymen in laying out work and learning to perform layout independently.
• Examine and inspect field conditions to identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures, and take corrective action as needed.
• Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies, and perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties and accountabilities.

• Experience working in one or more construction craft roles as a helper or laborer, or a combination of work experience and training, and a basic knowledge of the craft assigned.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety, and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role.
• Proficient in one or more craft areas, and able to compute basic numbers, read scales, and use simple fractions.
• Ability to work well under pressure and within timelines, and developing knowledge in the fabrication, installation, or maintenance of construction components and systems.
• Ability to understand and follow directions, and have all necessary tools for the craft assigned.
