As an Orthopedic Medical Support Specialist, I collaborate closely with the Area Practice Manager. My primary responsibilities encompass both administrative tasks and specific clinical functions under the guidance of the Orthopedic Provider. This role entails managing insurance authorizations and providing essential support to both the front desk and clinical teams. A key aspect of my position is to prioritize guest service and maintain a positive representation of our practice.
Key Performance Indicators
- I partner with a Provider as part of a clinical team to enhance guest care.
- I engage with guests to address inquiries, offer reassurance, and demonstrate empathy consistently.
- I ensure a warm welcome for our guests upon arrival and lead hospitality initiatives by upholding a courteous, attentive, and professional demeanor.
- I safeguard guest confidentiality and ensure the security of Protected Health Information (PHI) at all times, possessing a thorough understanding of HIPAA regulations and ongoing compliance.
Essential Duties
- I am skilled in applying Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and preparing for in-office procedures.
- I equip guests with all necessary clinical and administrative information required for surgical procedures as directed by the physician when applicable.
- I assist in documenting within the medical records.
- I complete all chart preparation tasks.
- I manage the sending and receiving of medical records.
- I procure lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
- I am responsible for checking in guests, collecting demographic data, verifying insurance coverage, and collecting copayments.
- I provide support for front desk operations and assist all members of the office team.
