Key Responsibilities
As a Clinical Laboratory Specialist, you will:

  • Conduct, assess, document, and report clinical laboratory tests essential for the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of patients using various biological specimens.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Medical Technology.

Minimum Experience:
Experience is preferred; however, new graduates from accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) programs will be considered.

Required Certification/Registration:
ASCP certification is preferred. New York State (NYS) MLT license or eligibility is required. If not licensed, a NYS permit must be obtained within two months of hire, and a NYS MLT license is required within one year of permit issuance.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods. Must be able to reach, lift, and carry light to moderately heavy equipment and supplies. Visual acuity and color discrimination are essential. Effective communication skills and comprehension of conversations are required.

Must possess manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate laboratory instruments, slides, test tubes, and other equipment. Capability to work long hours at varying times during the day or night is necessary. Alertness is required throughout all phases of work.

Working Conditions:
Exposure to noise, odors, fumes, blood, and biological materials is common. Attention to detail is crucial in an environment where interruptions may occur. Some tests may need to be performed in emergency situations, which could induce moderate stress. You may be required to perform duties at various locations.
