Responsibilities

The Nursing Professional Development Practitioner will be responsible for developing and implementing tools, theories, and skills to improve staff practice. Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Learning Facilitator: Design and deliver educational programs to bridge knowledge, skills, and practice gaps.
  • Change Agent: Work to transform processes at micro, meso-, and macro-system levels through project management and improvement processes.
  • Mentor: Advance the profession by contributing to the professional development of others and supporting lifelong learning.
  • Leader: Influence interprofessional practice and learning environments, the NPD specialty, the profession of nursing, and healthcare.
  • Champion of Scientific Inquiry: Promote the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and the use of evidence to advance NPD practice.
  • Advocate for NPD Specialty: Support, promote, and demonstrate nursing professional development as a nursing practice specialty.
  • Partner for Practice Transitions: Support the transition of nurses and other healthcare team members across learning and practice environments, roles, and professional stages.

Overall outputs of NPD practice are learning, change, professional role competence, and growth, leading to optimal patient care, population health, and public protection.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing required; Master's degree in nursing or education preferred.
  • Minimum Experience: 3 years of experience in nursing professional development in a hospital or academic setting, or demonstrated expertise in a clinically equivalent role.
  • Required Certification/Registration: Current New York State registered nurse license; BLS/ACLS provider status required, BLS/ACLS instructor status required, or achieved within 2 years of date of hire, transfer, or date of job description revision.
