Job Function

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Versatile Maintenance Technician will be responsible for ensuring the effective upkeep and operation of our plant machinery, buildings, and facilities within a collaborative environment. This position requires technical expertise and a cooperative approach while working alongside maintenance personnel and instrumentation specialists.

Key Responsibilities

Pipe-fitting

Possesses knowledge of fundamental pipe-fitting principles and fluid dynamics. Proficient in using levels, plumb bobs, and layout techniques. Familiar with various piping materials and schedules, capable of operating pipe-threading equipment, and skilled in gasket and bolt-up techniques. Experienced in beveling and preparing butt-weld fit-ups and installing and repairing different types of industrial valves.

Welding/Burning

Understands welding concepts, various joint types, and fit-ups. Capable of setting up and using cutting torches, stick welding carbon and stainless steel in all positions, and performing brazing and soldering.

Millwright/Machinist

Comprehends thermal expansion theory and operates lathes and milling machines. Proficient in using calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges, and dial indicators. Knowledgeable about various pumps and lubricating systems, and skilled in rebuilding gearboxes, pumps, blowers, and conveyors.

Equipment Operation/Rigging

Understands rigging principles, safety measures, and load balancing. Capable of operating forklifts, front-end loaders, and hydraulic cranes. Proficient in setting up and using air compressors and pneumatic tools.

Electrical

Possesses a basic understanding of electrical power theory, safety hazards, and safe work practices. Familiar with electrical components, overload protection, fuses, circuit breakers, and electrical symbols in construction drawings.

General Knowledge and Education

Must have the mathematical skills necessary to perform essential job functions and quality requirements, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication, as well as the ability to work with fractions and decimals. Understanding of metric measurements is essential. Quality assurance requires the ability to collect and analyze various types of quantifiable data.

Required Experience
  • Previous experience as a Versatile Maintenance Technician
    • 5-8 years of relevant industrial maintenance experience or
  • Previous experience as a First-Class Mechanic
    • 3-5 years of relevant industrial maintenance experience and a score of at least 80% on the Maintenance Skills Matrix after on-the-job evaluation (requires a minimum of two years working as a lower-class mechanic for evaluation) or
  • Previous experience as a Second-Class Mechanic
    • 1-3 years of relevant industrial maintenance experience and
    • A score of at least 70% on the Maintenance Skills Matrix after on-the-job evaluation (requires a minimum of three years working as a lower-class mechanic for evaluation)
