About the Role

Catholic Health Service is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Associate to join our team. As a Clinical Laboratory Associate, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services, providing exceptional patient care, and contributing to the overall success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Specimen Processing and Reporting: Identify and process all specimens, verify requisition and test data, and perform clerical responsibilities including telephone support, maintaining files/records, and report distribution.
  • Computer System Maintenance: Perform all necessary programs for the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Hospital Information System (HIS), troubleshoot computer problems, and direct unresolved issues to the Coordinator or CHS IT when necessary.
  • Phlebotomy and Patient Registration: Perform phlebotomy procedures for venipuncture, finger, and heel-stick collection methods according to procedure, register outpatients into the HIS by interviewing patients or their representative to obtain demographic, medical, and insurance information, and explain insurance protocols and financial responsibility.
  • Quality Control and Training: Perform quality control procedures for admitting information, implement corrections according to Hospital Admitting Department policy, and provide training for new employees and/or students as needed.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Graduate. Some college or equivalent education desirable.
  • Experience: Previous hospital experience preferred. Previous phlebotomy training preferred. On-the-job or equivalent training in admitting/registration procedures.
  • Skills: Excellent customer service skills, ability to type, knowledge of clerical systems, medical terminology, and computer systems, and ability to recognize and handle hazardous conditions inherent to the laboratory environment.
