Job Summary

The Surgical Technician is a vital member of the surgical team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, techniques, and materials to assist the surgical team during procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons and other team members during surgical procedures
  • Prepare and maintain surgical supplies and equipment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to obtain and review medical records
  • Scheduling appointments and providing preparatory instruction to patients for various medical procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment and supply terminology, identifying and using equipment and supplies properly, and communicating proper use with patients and family members
  • Knowledge of lab equipment and instruments

Requirements

  • One full year (18 semester hours) of graduate education in course matter that includes courses directly related to the work of the Surgical Technician position, such as anatomy and physiology, surgical technology, aseptic techniques, etc.
  • An equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to qualify at the GS-7 level

Additional Information

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
