Kaiser Permanente is seeking a skilled Anesthesia Technician to join our team in Santa Fe Springs, California.
Key Responsibilities- Assist anesthesia providers in preparing patients for surgery, including setting up equipment and monitoring vital signs.
- Collaborate with the anesthesia care team to develop and implement anesthesia plans of care.
- Perform various tasks, such as setting up and applying non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, induction of anesthesia, and positioning patients for surgery.
- Respond to emergency situations, such as Code Blue and Code Pink, with the anesthesia care team.
- Prepare and apply patient warming modalities as needed.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
- Manage work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities.
- Assemble and prepare anesthesia equipment and supplies for general, regional, and local anesthesia.
- Assist anesthesia providers with patient preparation, electrode placement, and use of ultrasound/nerve stimulator devices.
- Ensure sterile technique is maintained during procedures.
- Remove and dispose of supplies and equipment following procedures.
- Operate cell salvaging, intra-aortic balloon pumping, and TEE devices as required.
- Perform cleaning, sterilization, and decontamination of anesthesia-related items.
- Coordinate with Pharmacy for out-of-stock drugs.
- Utilize working knowledge and operation of all equipment and monitors.
- Perform routine checkout and upkeep of anesthesia equipment.
- Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering for maintenance and repair of anesthesia equipment.
- Maintain inventory of disposable and non-disposable equipment, including supplies and initiate replacement using established contract vendors.
- Maintain and update supplies in emergency carts and boxes.
- Assure a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.
- Participate in relevant local, regional, and national committees.
- Maintain working relationships with approved vendors.
- Organize work to minimize the use of overtime.
- Identify and assist in systems improvements for simplification or correction.
- Utilize payroll and non-payroll resources to their maximum potential.
- Consistently demonstrate a professional, supportive attitude.
- Initiate and support new ideas and actively assist others.
- Confront difficult or conflict situations constructively and seek appropriate assistance.
- Actively participate in departmental professional development and mentor anesthesia students.
- Participate with the assessment of current and future learning needs and development of an annual educational plan.
- Support a collaborative labor-management environment.
- Apply precautions and maintain a safe environment for self and others.
- Practice customer service standards as defined by the service area, medical center, and specific department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Consistently support compliance, the Principles of Responsibility, and Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct.
- Maintain and protect patient confidentiality.
- Adhere to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements, and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.
- Graduate of an Accredited program in Anesthesia Technology with an AS degree OR certified by the American Society of Technologists and Technicians (ASATT), as a Technologist.
- High School Diploma.
- I.V. Certification OR Anesthesia Technician Certificate from American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- Basic Life Support.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties and responsibilities required of a Certified Anesthesia Technologist.
- Must be able to lift 45 lbs of equipment from an overhead position on a daily basis.
- Must be able to push/pull up to 500 lbs.
- Keyboarding skills Upon training, must be able to use appropriate computer software applications, including the Health Connect system.
- Must be able to stand or walk continuously.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in the use of anesthesia equipment, including proper quality assurance, storage, and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of Anesthesia department procedures, principles of asepsis, and sterile technique.
- Able to demonstrate manual dexterity and mechanical ability.
- Must be able to exercise judgment and work efficiently and competently with minimal supervision.
- Utilizes effective communication strategies, which result in intended outcomes.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a Cardiac OR and/or Level 1 trauma center.
- Associate Degree.
- Certificate of training for Drager, GE, or other anesthesia delivery systems, if not a graduate of a program.
Notes:
- Travel in the Downey Service area. Rotate weekends.
