The Paramedic Instructor teaches credit courses within the Associate of Applied Science Paramedic Technician program at Blackhawk Technical College. This position reports directly to the Administrative Chair of Human and Emergency Services.
Key Responsibilities- Teaching and Curriculum Development: Provide instruction for Paramedic Technician courses as assigned, and engage in ongoing student learning assessment to determine the effectiveness of instruction and curriculum.
- Student Support and Retention: Identify students needing assistance and refer them to Student Services, collaborate with Student Services and Learning Resources staff to help students adjust to the learning environment, and maintain accurate student records and reports.
- Program Development and Maintenance: Develop and update or revise course and program curriculum as needed to maintain relevance, prepare and update course syllabi, and work cooperatively with members of other departments and programs in coordinating courses.
- Professional Development and Collaboration: Meet Wisconsin Technical College System professional development requirements, participate in staff development activities, and serve on college improvement teams and committees as appropriate.
- Recruitment and Job Placement: Collaborate with Business & Industry and Secondary Education partners to recruit students to the Paramedic Technician program, assist in job placement activities for graduates, and meet with employers to develop, maintain, and upgrade curriculum in the areas of paramedicine and CoAEMS accreditation.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Paramedicine or a related field.
- Experience: Two years (4,000 hours) of paramedic work experience, with at least one year (2,000 hours) within 5 years prior to date of appointment.
- Certifications and Licenses: Wisconsin Certified Instructor II or ability to obtain WI Instructor II within 6 months of hire, Wisconsin Paramedic License or ability to acquire Wisconsin Licensure, and Current NREMT Paramedic Certification.
