We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced RN Transfusion and Oncology Specialist to join our team at Nuvance Health. As a key member of our Outpatient Infusion Center, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and ensuring the safe administration of parenteral therapy to adult outpatients.
Key Responsibilities- Care Delivery and Therapeutic Interventions
- Adhere to established nursing standards of practice, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Practice according to unit-based protocols and administer medication/IV solution according to hospital policy and procedure.
- Follow chemotherapy administration according to hospital policy/procedure and consult appropriate resources as needed.
- Patient and Family Education
- Assess learning needs of patients and families or significant others.
- Plan and provide appropriate instruction.
- Assess and document the effectiveness of teaching.
- Professional and Personal Responsibilities
- Participate in unit-based activities and hospital committees.
- Attend staff development continuing education programs, JCAHO, and OSHA programs annually.
- Maintain and update educational records.
- Participate in professional organizations.
- Leadership
- Maintain a positive working environment through personal example and fostering teamwork.
- Facilitate patient care and delegate responsibilities to other team members to provide a therapeutic environment.
- Assume the role of charge RN and demonstrate independent solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrate good organizational and prioritization skills, able to assist in orientation and teaching of nursing personnel.
- Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Current CT RN license required.
- BSN preferred.
- Experience in the field of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Oncology, and IV Therapy preferred.
- Oncology Chemotherapy and Biological Therapy Certification preferred.
- Basic Life Support Certification required.
- Minimum Experience: zero to six months.
- Desired: Excellent IV insertion skills.
- Working knowledge of chemotherapeutic agents.
- Advanced technical clinical familiarity with indwelling central venous catheter devices.
- Working knowledge of the CQI process and ICD-9 codes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a close team setting and under the guidance of the Medical Director.
- Manual: Some manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity.
- Occupational: Little or no potential for occupational risk.
- Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force.
