Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geotechnical Section Manager to join our team at the State of Minnesota. As a key member of our Transportation Department, you will be responsible for providing managerial and technical direction to our Geotechnical Engineering Section.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical direction to the Geotechnical Engineering Section, including Grading and Base, Foundations, Aggregate and Geology.
  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  • Develop and implement policies, rules, standards, and procedures related to geotechnical engineering.
  • Supervise staff and establish relationships with stakeholders and interest groups.
  • Develop and manage budgets, including the allocation of resources.
Requirements
  • Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity.
  • Five years of post-registration experience with three years at the Engineer Principal level.
  • Experience with geology, hydrology, soils engineering, soil mechanics, methods of erosion control, and pavement design.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies, rules, standards, and procedures.
  • Experience supervising staff and establishing relationships with staff, stakeholders, and interest groups.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets, including the allocation of resources.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preparing and delivering timely reports utilizing internal equipment and staff supplemented by contracted consultant equipment and staff.
  • Experience purchasing, maintaining, and prioritizing fleet resources for drilling and other deep foundation applications.
