The Bastrop Police Department is a unified and collaborative group of professionals committed to delivering outstanding public service and fostering a safe environment for all residents and visitors. The department consists of a dedicated team of sworn officers and civilian support staff.
Under the guidance of a Patrol Sergeant, you will engage in a variety of law enforcement duties. These responsibilities are centered around service and protection, including gathering and sharing information, mediating conflicts, assisting the public, safeguarding property, preventing criminal activity, and providing essential safety services. Officers are expected to operate independently while adhering to local and state laws, as well as departmental policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to emergency calls and take appropriate action in various situations, such as traffic incidents, domestic disturbances, and criminal complaints.
- Execute warrants and conduct arrests as necessary.
- Interview individuals to gather vital information related to incidents.
- Provide public assistance, including traffic direction and minor vehicle repairs.
- Address emergencies, including alarms and robbery calls, and conduct initial assessments of scenes.
- Assist in maintaining scene control during incidents involving fire, medical emergencies, or accidents.
- Conduct preliminary investigations at crime scenes, ensuring evidence is collected and preserved correctly.
- Enforce laws and apprehend individuals committing offenses.
- Testify in various court proceedings as required.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to daily activities and incidents.
- Stay informed about changes in laws and enforcement techniques through ongoing training.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
• Understanding of crime prevention strategies.
• Knowledge of crime scene investigation techniques.
• Proficiency in accident investigation methods.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
• Competence in the safe handling of firearms and other equipment.
• Skill in operating vehicles under various conditions.
• Strong communication skills for effective interaction with the public and superiors.
• Quick analytical skills to assess situations and determine appropriate actions.
• Knowledge of the geography of the area.
• Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
• Discretion in handling sensitive information.
Education, Training, and Certifications:
• Basic Peace Officer certification from TCOLE.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record.
• Completion of all required Incident Command Trainings.
Other Requirements:
• Consistent attendance during assigned hours is crucial.
• Availability to work during holidays, weekends, or after hours as needed.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Involves various physical activities such as standing, walking, lifting, and operating vehicles. Exposure to diverse weather conditions and potential hazards is expected.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of drug testing and background checks.

Current Salary Structure:
Police Officer with less than 5 years of experience: $60,230 annually.
Senior Police Officer with 5 or more years of experience: $66,329 annually.
Additional Compensation:
- Night Shift Differential Pay
- Certification Pay: Intermediate Peace Officer License: $600 annually; Advanced Peace Officer License: $1200 annually; Master Peace Officer License: $1800 annually.
- Sign-on Bonus: $5,000 after 3 years of service; an additional $5,000 after 6 years of service.
