About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and talented Principal Civil Engineer to join our team at Toole Design in Columbus, OH. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading and managing diverse projects, from preliminary design to final construction, while ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery. Your expertise in multimodal transportation, roadway design, and project management will be invaluable in driving our company's mission to create better, more inclusive communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage projects from concept to construction, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery.
  • Develop and implement creative solutions for challenging projects, leveraging your expertise in multimodal transportation and roadway design.
  • Collaborate with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Manage and mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Participate in business development pursuits, identifying new opportunities and building relationships with clients and partners.
Requirements
  • Professional Engineering license in OH (other Midwest states a plus)
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering
  • At least 10 years (for Senior Engineer) of engineering experience developing construction documents and/or public agency construction administration (15 years for Principal Engineer)
  • At least 5 years serving in a project and/or design management role
  • Broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in roadway design, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling, and design of accessible public spaces
  • Proven track record of delivering multiple large/complex projects on time and on budget
  • Experience in preparing transportation and local agency permit documents
  • General experience leading multidisciplinary teams, coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts, street lighting, traffic signal, and landscape/hardscape layouts
  • Interest in multimodal and active transportation design
  • General knowledge of project performance metrics and strategies for monitoring them
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation (including OpenRoads), AutoCAD (including Civil 3D)
