Job Summary

The Addictions Counselor Assistant plays a vital role in the Addiction Treatment Center's multidisciplinary treatment team, working under the supervision of an Addictions Counselor to provide care and counseling to clients. Key responsibilities include assisting with individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, treatment and discharge planning, and clinical activities as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, treatment and discharge planning, and clinical activities as assigned.
  • Develop, assess, and modify individual treatment plans by providing information gathered through direct observation and discussion with clients.
  • Coordinate care with referral sources regarding admission and discharge, including referrals for aftercare.
  • Complete required client and facility documentation, adhering to applicable OASAS procedures and confidentiality regulations.
  • Conduct and monitor recreational, vocational, and social activities as needed.
  • Assist with client transportation, room searches, and urine toxicology collection.
  • Prepare room and client supplies for new admissions.
  • Conduct routine rounds and document observations, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • May provide training or guidance to newer or sporadic peers, particularly in relation to the routines, procedures, and policies of the ATC.
  • May complete insurance inquiries and documentation regarding coordination of care with financial/insurance entities.
  • Monitor clients and ensure building safety and security.
  • Participate in meal preparation and distribution.
  • Communicate shift change information as appropriate to facilitate smooth transition.
Requirements
  • An Associate's degree with a specialization in Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, or Chemical Dependency.
  • One year of full-time employment in a field requiring the application of communication skills.
  • One year of experience in a direct treatment capacity working in an addictions treatment setting.
Additional Information

The ATC uses a computerized patient record system. OASAS ATCs are tobacco-free facilities. Background Investigation Requirements: Prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List, investigated through a Criminal Background Check, and screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment.
