About the Job

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Residential Mental Health. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the delivery of exceptional healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to individuals with mental health conditions, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical and emotional needs, and develop plans to address these needs.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families on mental health conditions, treatment options, and self-care strategies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia.
  • English Language Proficiency: Licensed practical or vocational nurses appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in both spoken and written English.
  • At least one (1) year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-6 level or equivalent, fully meeting all of the performance requirements for the GS-6 LPN/LVN.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Residential Mental Health LPN Experience.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. The incumbent must be able to lift 45 pounds or more, and stand for long periods of time. The work environment is typically quiet, with occasional exposure to loud noises.
