The Campus Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a safe educational atmosphere for all individuals on school premises by overseeing activities and addressing safety issues. This role involves protecting and securing all District property at the campus level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Oversees campus activities and events; enforces all campus and District policies and regulations.
  2. Evaluates campus facilities and grounds to ensure that only authorized individuals are present and that students do not exit campus without permission.
  3. Fosters positive relationships with students and staff; contributes to a constructive campus environment.
  4. Assists in managing disruptive students, guiding them to the Administration office, and supervising those awaiting intervention. Effectively deescalates conflicts.
  5. Communicates campus activities to Dispatch/Base, Safety Coordinator, Campus Safety Supervisor, or Senior Safety Coordinator.
  6. May provide assistance to safety teams at other District locations as required.
  7. Participates in mandatory District/Local training programs.
  8. Promotes a positive relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the community by demonstrating professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and staff; maintains confidentiality regarding work-related matters, client records, and school information; adheres to Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous experience in security or a related field preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age.

License and Certification Requirements:
A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.
Must possess current Red Cross first aid certificate and CPR certificate at time of employment or obtain within the first 60 days of employment and maintain current status.
Must possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint clearance card within 90 days of employment.

  • Skill in mediating and resolving conflicts.
  • Skill in following and enforcing safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to safely diffuse physical altercations.
  • Ability to identify safety hazards and suspicious individuals on school grounds.
  • Skill in completing assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and District policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying pertinent rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, including interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to exercise initiative within organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
