Position Overview:

The City of Altoona is in search of a dedicated full-time Civil Engineering Technician to enhance our Public Works Department. In this capacity, you will collaborate with our Engineering team to execute a range of technical responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Your duties will encompass the preparation and evaluation of plans and bids, conducting inspections of materials and workmanship on various projects, gathering and analyzing data, and assessing topographical features of sites.

Qualifications:

We seek candidates with a solid understanding of civil engineering principles and practices. Proficiency in drafting and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, surveying techniques, and construction processes is highly desirable. The successful applicant should also possess the capability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, maps, and specifications.

Communication Skills:

Exceptional communication abilities are essential, as you will be engaging closely with contractors, representatives from governmental agencies, City officials, and the public.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of relevant technical or college training in drafting, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), engineering technology, civil engineering, environmental science, or a closely related field; or two (2) years of relevant experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Successful completion of a written aptitude assessment as part of the screening process.
