Job Title: Assistant or Associate Legal Counsel

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant or Associate Legal Counsel to join our team at the University of Nebraska Foundation. As a key member of our legal team, you will provide critical legal support to enable the University of Nebraska to achieve its mission of changing lives and saving lives.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented and organized individual who is passionate about the law and committed to making a difference. As an Assistant or Associate Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to our Advancement team, researching and reviewing legal issues affecting the organization, and conducting due diligence on real estate and other non-cash donations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice to the Advancement team on donor and prospect engagement and cultivation for giving opportunities.
  • Research and review legal issues affecting the organization in areas such as corporate governance, exempt organizations tax, estate planning, real estate, risk management, vendor contracts, human resources, post-secondary education, and legislation.
  • Conduct due diligence on real estate and other non-cash donations as needed.
  • Advise staff, university, donors, and other related third parties on legal and practical issues related to charitable giving and appropriate use of charitable funds.
  • Serve as UNF Assistant Corporate Secretary and assist with general administrative and management functions of the organization.
  • Lead complex legal projects that span legal, business, and functional boundaries.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review routine and complex legal documents and agreements.
Requirements:
  • JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school or equivalent.
  • Admission to or ability to apply for admission to the Nebraska State Bar Association.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in corporate and transactional law.
  • Prior success in building relationships and communicating with groups of people with diverse personal and professional experiences.
  • Demonstrated strong oral, writing, and editing skills.
  • Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive legal matters.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while effectively managing multiple tasks.
