Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a high-level Boys Volleyball program, supervising assistant coaches, and ensuring positive communication with patrons and parents of athletes and potential athletes.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the Boys Volleyball program, including planning and implementing practices, games, and tournaments.
  • Supervise and mentor assistant coaches to ensure a cohesive and effective team.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with patrons, parents, and athletes to promote a supportive and inclusive team environment.
  • Ensure the Volleyball facilities are well-maintained and in good condition.
  • Coordinate off-season camps and conditioning programs to enhance player development.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the sport among players, coaches, and spectators.
  • Collaborate with other coaches to ensure a comprehensive approach to athlete development.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHSAA bylaws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate statistics on all players.
District Expectations:

All employees of Columbia Public Schools are expected to adhere to the policies and regulations of the Board of Education, maintain appropriate certification and competencies necessary for the position, and demonstrate the values of the district at all times.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: Athletic Director

Supervises: Assistant Coaches

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include:

  • A Four-Year College Degree OR Serving as an Approved Assistant Coach for a minimum of TWO school years.
  • A Professional Teacher's Certificate OR NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course (online) passed prior to coaching.
  • Successful completion of a Sports First Aid course prior to coaching and renewed every two years.
  • Successful completion of CPR/AED training prior to coaching and renewed every two years.
  • Background Check including Sex-Offender's Registry Clearance prior to coaching.
  • Board of Education or Board of Governance Approval prior to coaching.
  • Successful completion of a Concussion in Sports Course, and review of current concussion information yearly.
  • Successful completion of the MSHSAA Sport-Specific Online Rules Review each season.
  • Successful completion of a Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention training prior to approval and renewed every two years.
  • Successful completion of a course in Heat Illness Prevention/Recognition training prior to approval and renewed every two years.

Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's degree, Missouri teaching certificate, and prior teaching/coaching experience.
