Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director of Nursing to join our team at St. Luke Health Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Staffing Coordinator to ensure adequate staffing levels and efficient staff replacement.
  • Supervise the Staffing Coordinator and provide guidance on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Attend in-service programs and administrative meetings to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in nursing care.
  • Assist with ongoing education of staff and residents, and participate in the training of Certified Nursing Assistants.
  • Develop and implement nursing QA processes, and make frequent rounds on all nursing units to assess performance and ensure resident care needs are met.
  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Nursing, and participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Work with nurse managers and supervisors to ensure that nursing delivery meets patient needs, and serve as a resource to staff in clinical and managerial decision-making.
  • Assure that practices are consistent with regulatory requirements, and participate in inspections by regulatory agencies.
  • Establish good public relations, and assist in problem resolution between staff, residents, families, and visitors.
  • Identify problems and report to the Director of Nursing, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Interview applicants for position vacancies, and make hiring recommendations to the Director of Nursing.
  • Collaborate with nurse managers and supervisors to prepare performance evaluations of employees.
  • Discipline staff, and consult with nurse managers/supervisors in disciplinary action.
  • Participate as an active member on assigned committees, and assist with documents and investigations of incidents and accidents.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing, bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Current registration in this state.
  • Interest and ability in teaching others and assisting them in their skills.
  • Capacity to grasp new theories and principles and put them into effect.
  • Ability to make independent decisions.
  • Training and ability in comprehensive patient physical assessment.
  • Knowledge of working in a union environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Two (2) years managerial and clinical experience in a health care environment required.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in long-term care desired.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards desired.
  • MDS training.

Working Conditions:

  • Well-lighted, well-ventilated rooms and halls.
  • Walking, sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently during the workday.
  • Exposed to infection, odors, and subject to personality and mood changes peculiar to aged and infirmed.
  • Involved with residents, personnel, volunteers, and visitors under all conditions.
  • Must be available to work more than eight (8) hours per day, or more than forty (40) hours per week.
