Job Summary

The University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medical Services Consortium, is seeking part-time Paramedics. The successful applicants will respond to statewide emergencies under the supervision of the EMS Medical Direction Consortium. They will work to support the EMS Academy and EMS Consortium through remote on-site clinical care and education. The individuals will be responsible for primary advanced life support patient care directly supporting EMS Consortium contracts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend emergency medical requests as they arise; render on-site emergency assistance to patients as required.
  • Perform or assist in the initial assessment and management of illness or injury to emergency patients in accordance with specified protocol and procedure.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of patients for transport, ensuring compliance with emergency medical transport regulations, protocol, and procedure.
  • Provide or assist in the provision of basic direct patient care, as required in each individual case.
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Inspect emergency medical equipment to ensure serviceability and compliance with safety and infection control regulations and standards.
  • Complete and transfer patient care information and records as per established procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience in the field of pre-hospital EMS.
  • Certification/Licensure: NM licensure as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
