About the Opportunity

Hornblower Inc is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Engineering Department, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of mechanical and hydraulic equipment onboard our vessels.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical and hydraulic equipment, as well as lubricate moving parts of the engine and other machinery.
  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and economical operation of all vessel machinery.
  • Assist in ship's technical maintenance and follow all engine room procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and handle ship's technical jobs under the direction of the Chief Engineer.
  • Stand engine room watch while the vessel is underway or as and when deemed necessary.
  • Maintain a log of lube/oil quantities and consumptions, and monitor and analyze cooling water.
  • Assist in maintaining the general condition/maintenance of machineries, steering gear, air conditioning, etc.
  • Keep engine room watches and carry out any assigned maintenance jobs.
  • Assist with firefighting and other emergencies onboard the vessel.
  • Impart knowledge about vessel operations to crew members and provide on-the-job training.
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Valid Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC)
  • Minimum DD-4000 endorsement
  • Valid U.S. Passport
  • Valid USCG Medical Certificate
  • QMED Endorsement
  • Valid TWIC Card
  • Ability to pass a physical exam
  • Ability to pass a written exam
