ROLE PURPOSE: The Cost Accountant will evaluate material, labor, and other expenditures to ascertain production costs, cost of goods sold (COGS), and other cost-related performance metrics. This role involves capturing and categorizing cost data to determine expenses associated with products, projects, or departments. The selected candidate will provide cost-related information to support business decisions and financial reporting. Additionally, the individual will participate in or oversee regular inventory cycle counts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis to establish and maintain precise Bill of Materials, routings, and product standard costs.
  • Generate cost estimates for new products, formulation changes, cost reduction initiatives, and comparative analyses.
  • Manage full item setup, ensuring the preparation of accurate bill of materials, routings, and standard costs.
  • Utilize JD Edwards and Excel cost sheets to verify cost accuracy and implement corrective measures as necessary.
  • Process item setup changes in accordance with Item Change Requests, Process Specifications, and other approved modifications.
  • Compile weekly/monthly reports as required.
  • Perform weekly tasks, including resin cost verification, variance reports, journal entries, and planning cost updates.
  • Assist in the monthly financial closing process, including journal entries and reporting tasks.
  • Engage in additional financial projects and analyses under the guidance of the Cost Accounting Supervisor/Controller.
  • Analyze fully reserved On Hold/SMOOG inventory monthly to determine its disposition.
  • Support the preparation of the annual financial budget as needed.
  • Participate in the annual physical inventory process.
  • Execute other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required, along with a minimum of 3 years of experience in Cost Accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cost Accounting principles, JD Edwards (preferred but not mandatory), and Excel is essential.
