Job Overview:

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) will be responsible for financial planning, analysis, and reporting for The Gardner School. This role involves working closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and senior leadership to develop and execute financial strategies that support the company's growth objectives while ensuring financial health and stability.


Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning:

  • Develop and maintain financial models to forecast revenues, expenses, and cash flow projections.
  • Collaborate with department heads to establish annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis against actual results.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential M&A targets and maintain a database of potential targets, regularly updating with new information.
  • Analyze industry trends and competitive landscapes.


Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct profitability analysis by location (and program) to identify areas for improvement.
  • Analyze financial trends and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Assess investment opportunities and ROI for new initiatives.


Reporting and Communication:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management.
  • Present financial information in a clear and concise manner to non-financial readers of the information.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly presentations and board materials.


Business Partnership:

  • Collaborate with operational teams to optimize resource allocation and cost management.
  • Partner with the CFO and Human Resources on financial aspects related to compensation, benefits, and staffing.


Process Improvement:

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Recommend enhancements to financial systems and tools to streamline FP&A processes.


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Proven experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably in a service-oriented industry.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and forecasting techniques.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with financial systems (e.g., ERP, BI tools).
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate financial insights into actionable strategies.
