Overview:


Clinical Laboratory Technicians are responsible for executing or overseeing a diverse range of technical tasks within a clinical laboratory or healthcare facility that directly engages in patient care activities. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities as outlined below.


Key Responsibilities:


The Clinical Laboratory Technician will conduct pulmonary function assessments and exercise evaluations on patients. These assessments are crucial for diagnosing and managing various health conditions.

The technician will also engage in research initiatives that necessitate pulmonary function or exercise testing as a key evaluation metric.


The primary duties include:

  • Instructing and guiding patients through complex and effort-dependent respiratory tests, often with minimal supervision, including patients in critical health conditions.
  • Mastering the various lung function metrics to ensure the generation of consistent and precise results.
  • Understanding the technical components of the testing equipment, alongside various software and hardware applications.
  • Adhering to detailed protocols to ensure the success of testing procedures.

Compensation:


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on institutional policy. The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are broad; however, a job offer will typically fall within 80% - 120% of the established midpoint.

An offer will consider the experience of the final candidate as well as the current salary levels of individuals in similar roles.


Qualifications:


Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a major in a relevant natural science, or two years of college coursework in natural sciences coupled with two years of applicable experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to work closely with colleagues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, both independently and within a team.
  • Effective communication with patients, demonstrating sensitivity to their needs.


Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a hospital or clinical environment, particularly with critically ill patients.
  • Comfort in handling human blood and conducting phlebotomy.
  • Statistical analysis skills.
  • Certification in Pulmonary Function Testing.
  • Coursework in physiology.
