Key Responsibilities- Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the company's new product strategy in alignment with overall business objectives.
- Drive innovation and new product development efforts to meet market demands and gain a competitive edge.
- Develop and implement new products by defining and assessing the scope of projects, applications that can be used, project financials, operational assessments, and potential equipment options.
- Team Management and Development
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of professionals, including product developers and engineers.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging cross-functional collaboration with other departments.
- Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback to ensure constant growth of our team members.
- Process Optimization & Automation
- Support the design and development of automated processes for pre-roll production.
- Drive the team to deliver ongoing training to sites on process optimization, reformulations, and quality improvements.
- Evaluate and source strategic solutions for automation for pre-roll processing and pre-roll packaging.
- Select and maintain the appropriate automated manufacturing equipment and machinery per market.
- Implement start-up management excellence to ensure vertical startup for all new equipment and process integrations.
- Product Development
- Oversee the end-to-end product development process, from ideation to commercialization.
- Ensure that products meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards while optimizing cost-effectiveness and scalability.
- Support the team on documentation required for deployment, such as comprehensive SOPs, formulation spreadsheets, batch records, traceability, and tracking logs.
- Drive the Development team to implement standards across the network that ensure premium consumption.
- Market Analysis
- Stay current with industry trends, consumer preferences, and emerging technologies to drive innovation.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify growth opportunities and market changes to maintain a competitive edge in the evolving cannabis space.
- Engage with cannabis and CPG current events to support recommendations and development of new products. Able to strategically build a pipeline with cross-functional teams.
- Project Management and Technical Expertise
- Implement project management best practices to timelines and milestones for Pre-roll initiatives.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the technical aspects of the equipment and products the team is working on.
- Offer technical guidance and support to team members and manufacturing sites when necessary.
- Manage the implementation of new systems or upgrades through technical transfer for each facility.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation.
- Budget Management
- Develop and manage the budget for all projects flowing through Pre-Rolls, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to support research and development projects.
- Explore cost-saving opportunities in ingredients, processes, and packaging.
- Regulatory Compliance and Quality
- Work with QA and Compliance to ensure that all products meet relevant product safety, labeling, and regulatory requirements.
- Implement and maintain robust quality control processes and procedures for new products.
- Address and resolve quality and compliance issues.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Science or Engineering, Master's degree or PhD strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
- 8+ years of leadership experience.
- Research and development or engineering experience with Pre-rolls.
- Proven track record in accomplishing significant and impactful business results.
- Demonstrated high level of leadership, relationship management, and communication skills; ability to work effectively with global teams.
- Ability to be a technical and strategic leader as well as a hands-on implementer.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with coworkers and management.
- Understanding & adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, innovative and able to work independently or among teams with keen judgement, common sense and resourcefulness.
- Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information.
- Must have a solid understanding of the Cannabis laws, rules and regulations and passion to further their understanding and knowledge of the industry and the laws.
- Must pass any and all required background checks.
- Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry.
- Must possess valid driver's license.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Must be approved by state badging agency to work in cannabis industry.
- Able to travel as needed for product start-up and production site support.
