About the Role:


The Metals Preparation Specialist will play a crucial role in the meticulous preparation of samples for waste characterization, utilizing the Toxicity Characterization Leachate Procedure (TCLP).

This position involves the digestion of environmental samples, encompassing both solid and liquid matrices, along with the instrumental analysis of digestates for Mercury content using Cold Vapor Atomic Adsorption (CVAA), adhering to established EPA protocols and ALS standard operating procedures.


Key Responsibilities:

About You:
- Execute all tasks related to the preparation of samples for waste characterization;

- Ensure thorough documentation of all preparatory processes in compliance with established guidelines;

- Conduct all work within defined quality control standards and specified turnaround times;

- Assist in the preparation of analytical standards, reagents, and solutions;

- Uphold safe working conditions and maintain a clean, organized workspace at all times;

- Adhere strictly to SOPs and methodologies without deviation;

- Follow all laboratory safety protocols;

- May assist with the cleaning of glassware and disposal of samples;

- Learn and effectively utilize the laboratory information management system (LIMS);

- Accurately document results in controlled logbooks and bench sheets;

- Responsible for assembling prep batches and reviewing this information for compliance and accuracy.

- Maintain a tidy and organized work environment;

- Perform other duties as assigned;

Qualifications:
- Commitment to supporting the goals and values of ALS;

- Strong work ethic and ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team;

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;

- Basic laboratory skills, including the use of balances, pipettes, and quantitative sample transfers;

- Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple details;

- High energy, confidence, and ability to excel in a fast-paced setting;

- Willingness to work weekends as needed;

- Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline or a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in metals preparation;

- Experience in metals digestion is preferred but not mandatory;

- Quick learner with the ability to follow instructions;

- Strong dedication to quality and integrity;

Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of up to 8 hours while performing tasks;

- Clear communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and supervisors;

- Manual dexterity to operate equipment and handle glassware;

- Adequate vision to read reports and operate laboratory equipment;

- Effective hearing and speech for communication in person and over the phone;
