Job Overview

Horizons Youth Services is in search of a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (TEAP Specialist) to join our dedicated team at the Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center.

Position Summary: This role involves the creation and execution of the Student Employee Assistance Program, encompassing assessment, intervention, counseling, relapse prevention, and education on alcohol and drug use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a minimum of one interactive presentation on substance use prevention for all incoming students during the Career Preparation Period.
  • Organize and facilitate at least three center-wide activities annually focused on substance use prevention and education.
  • Engage in clinical consultations with the Center Director, management team, Center Mental Health Consultant, and Health and Wellness Manager regarding substance use prevention and educational initiatives for students and staff.
  • Review the Social Intake Form (SIF) or intake assessments conducted by counseling staff for all new students within one week of their arrival.
  • Collaborate with the Center Mental Health Consultant to assess when a medical separation or MSWR is warranted for students with substance use issues.
  • Provide individual and group intervention services aimed at addressing behaviors that hinder employability.
  • Assist in the formulation of center operating procedures related to alcohol and drug testing and intervention programs.
  • Develop and oversee student intervention plans, documenting progress in each student's health record.
  • Conduct ongoing counseling and support groups, introducing the self-help process to students in intervention programs.

Experience Required: A minimum of one to two years of relevant experience and/or training.

Educational Background: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year institution is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Certifications and Licenses: Certification from a state or national credentialing board for drug and/or alcohol counseling is required, along with a chemical dependency certificate and a valid State Commercial Driver's License.
