About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented R&D Technologist Intern to join our dynamic team in the Thermal, Fluid, and Aero Labs (TFAL) at Sandia National Laboratories.

As an R&D Technologist Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects related to national security and technology innovation, including aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics, compressible fluid mechanics, multiphase and reactive flows, and shock physics.

Responsibilities will include assisting the Aerosciences and Diagnostic for Extreme Environments and Hypersonics Departments with various projects, working with a mentor to operate and troubleshoot large-scale test facilities, assembling, modifying, or repairing test hardware, acquiring and processing test data, and more.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this role, you must be currently attending and enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate program, pursuing a science, engineering, or math major, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0, and be able to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer.

Preferred qualifications include demonstrated knowledge of pressure and electrical installation and safety practices, familiarity with SNL Environmental Safety & Health or similar safety practices, experience with the operation and maintenance of compressors, high-pressure systems, vacuum pumps, refrigeration systems, low- and high-voltage power systems, and/or electrical control systems, and experience with test equipment such as lasers, data acquisition systems, x-ray systems, cameras & lighting systems and/or various instrumentation.
