Position Summary:
The Nurse Anesthetist is responsible for administering anesthesia to patients undergoing various procedures, including surgical, medical, obstetrical, diagnostic, psychiatric, or resuscitative interventions, utilizing general, regional, or monitored anesthesia techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments in a timely manner, which includes:
a. Performing patient history and physical examinations.
b. Developing a comprehensive anesthesia care plan.
c. Documenting assessments and plans effectively.
d. Explaining the anesthesia process, including risks and benefits, to patients and their families.
e. Assembling necessary equipment and medications.
2. Achieve departmental quality metrics related to turnover times, punctual starts, and quality improvement submissions.
3. Engage in ongoing education and professional development, participate in institutional and departmental committees, and enhance the clinical learning environment for fellow healthcare professionals.
4. Contribute to performance improvement initiatives by:
a. Identifying areas for enhancement.
b. Planning and implementing strategies to improve patient outcomes.
c. Assisting in data collection and participating in Impact Care activities.
5. Maintain accurate anesthesia records, Impact Care reports, and other documentation in a clear and organized manner.
6. Administer anesthesia safely by:
a. Performing the ASA-approved checklist of equipment.
b. Ensuring a safe environment for patients.
c. Administering anesthesia in accordance with established standards of care.
d. Placing appropriate lines and monitoring patients effectively.
e. Adjusting care as necessary and notifying relevant personnel in case of abnormalities.
f. Transporting patients post-procedure and documenting anesthesia care accurately.
Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
Completion of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia program recognized by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Must hold a valid license as an Advanced Practice Provider (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in North Carolina, with board certification as required by the department.
Professional Experience Requirements:
No prior experience is necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
Possess the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties outlined above.
