Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our team at Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance on the design, testing, maintenance, and repair of boilers and pressure vessels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate equipment and designs to understand how they function and identify potential failure modes.
  • Analyze equipment risks associated with new opportunities and develop risk engineering standards and best practices.
  • Provide guidelines for ongoing engineering loss prevention activities and assist with claim investigations.
  • Support jurisdictional inspection activities and develop training material for both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Develop relationships with equipment manufacturers and participate in technical societies to stay up-to-date on forward-looking trends.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering is required, or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced degrees or registration as a Professional Engineer is a plus.
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in project development, design, manufacturing, construction, or maintenance of boilers and/or pressure vessels.
  • Possess strong technical and practical knowledge of design, testing, maintenance, installation, commissioning, or repair services for boilers and pressure vessels.
  • Possess working knowledge of the codes, standards, or practices associated with design, testing, maintenance, repairs, installation, and operation of boilers and/or pressure vessels.
  • Have excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate engineering subject matter to both technical and non-technical audiences.
