Job Summary

Chant Engineering, a leading engineering company in Doylestown, PA, is seeking a skilled Buyer/Purchasing Agent to join its purchasing team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in purchasing and be able to thrive in an environment that allows for independent work within a team setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Source new and existing items to ensure optimal cost and value.
  • Process purchase orders, requisitions, and requests for quotes for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.
  • Expedite deliveries on newly issued purchase orders to ensure supplier receipt and acceptance.
  • Evaluate product data sheets for material substitutions and cost reduction activities.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of components to support production.
  • Report any purchase order discrepancies to the Materials Manager and resolve according to protocol.
  • Maintain electronic files of all active purchase orders and material requisitions.
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding outstanding orders and discrepancies with quality and/or quantity.
  • Review daily receiving logs and update supplier performance assessments accordingly.
  • Maintain supplier performance assessments and review with the Materials Manager quarterly.
  • Issue quarterly performance reports to suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the engineering department regarding changes to BOMs.
  • Coordinate product returns to suppliers; obtain return authorization and approval from the Materials Manager for re-stocking/return shipping fees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as business needs require.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of the purchasing process.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD schematics, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Capacity to evaluate product data sheets for material substitutions and cost reduction activities.
  • Proficiency in data management with Excel, including Windows OS and Microsoft Word.
  • 2 years' experience required with an ERP or MRP system.
  • Excellent math, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/assignments.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
