Lebanon, Indiana, United States Skjodt-Barrett Foods Inc Full time

About Us

Skjodt-Barrett Foods Inc is a premier producer of culinary solutions and tailored ingredients for some of North America's most cherished and reputable brands. We pride ourselves on collaborating closely with our clients to grasp their distinct requirements and devise innovative, personalized solutions that bring joy to their consumers.

Founded over 35 years ago by a family, we are supported by Axel Johnson Inc (AJI), an investment firm that empowers us to pursue growth and explore new avenues.

Our clientele, ranging from blue-chip international brands to mid-sized producers, is the reason for our existence. Our teams of innovators, communicators, and managers are dedicated to fulfilling their needs, building trust, and surpassing expectations.

Your Role

We are seeking a Quality Assurance Lead, Food Production to join our Indiana facility. Reporting to the Head of Quality Assurance, you will enhance and streamline the plant's quality management system while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and compliance. You will guide a team in executing their daily quality assurance responsibilities and spearhead the establishment and execution of quality objectives for the facility. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all products manufactured meet safety and quality standards.

Your Profile

You are an experienced quality assurance leader with a background in food and beverage manufacturing. You are driven by integrity, a commitment to excellence, and a desire for continuous improvement on the production floor. You are eager to implement change and are willing to invest the effort required to achieve it. You are data-driven and process-oriented, while also valuing time spent on the production floor to assess team performance and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a Quality Culture: You will instill the belief that quality is a collective responsibility. You will take accountability for the success of quality assurance standards and practices while encouraging the team to take ownership of their actions. You will ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including HACCP, GFIS, and company standards as outlined in the Quality Assurance Manual and internal directives. You will lead continuous improvement initiatives in product quality and process optimization.
  • Guarantee Product Safety: You will oversee daily quality assurance operations within the facility. You will apply logical reasoning to resolve issues and implement solutions to prevent production delays. You will ensure adherence to stringent sanitation protocols and conduct thorough sanitation testing. You will support troubleshooting efforts in case of sanitation system failures.
  • Conduct Analysis and Reporting: You will address customer complaints and provide Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA). You will manage audits and inspections from local, state, customer, third-party, and federal entities. You will communicate quality metrics and inspection outcomes to relevant managers and leadership, including regular KPI reporting.
  • Knowledge Sharing: You will educate management and staff on all quality assurance and food safety protocols, including the HACCP program and Quality Management System (QMS). You will maintain documentation for all required quality tests and activities.
  • Laboratory Oversight: You will ensure the laboratory operates effectively, with all necessary supplies and equipment available. You will verify that appropriate tests—chemical, bacteriological, sensory, and utilization—are performed on raw materials and finished products.
  • Exceed Customer Expectations: You will ensure compliance with all contract packaging and customer specifications. You will guarantee timely release of all finished goods for shipment and materials for production.
  • Lead Change Management: You will implement strategies and plans that promote the swift adoption of improvements and best practices that enhance quality and efficiency. You will collaborate closely with the plant manager, engineers, production manager, HRBP, controller, and planner to achieve site objectives related to cost, quality, environmental safety, and delivery of superior products.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Completion of HACCP training and GFSI scheme training is also required.
  • Experience: Extensive quality assurance experience in food and beverage manufacturing, with direct involvement in continuous improvement initiatives and change management. Experience in leading audits and implementing corrective actions is essential.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) under GFSI and HACCP standards, along with experience in thermal processing techniques and sanitation systems.
  • Project Management Skills: Proven ability to manage projects from inception to completion, demonstrating decisiveness, meticulousness, and proactivity in addressing issues and requests for changes.
  • Leadership Abilities: Experience in managing and developing teams, fostering collaboration, and achieving objectives efficiently and safely.
