Radiation Safety Expert Leader

MedStar Health seeks a seasoned Radiation Safety expert to lead our comprehensive radiological safety program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
Key Responsibilities- Direct, develop, and maintain a radiological safety program that ensures a healthy environment for patients, employees, visitors, and students.
- Establish protocols to confirm radiation safety activities are performed in accordance with approved procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Provides administrative leadership in developing and implementing an organizational management program for management and control. Serves as liaison with other work areas and departments as appropriate.
- Develops and implements Radiation Safety Policies and Procedures for the Hospital. Evaluates protocols and procedures for compliance with radiation safety practices for the District and Federal regulations.
- Prepares quarterly and annual Radiation Safety effectiveness reports in accordance with state and federal Radiation Safety regulations.
- Manages departmental budget and ensures department operates within organizational finance goals and objectives.
- Develops communication strategies encouraging input from staff while disseminating Radiation Safety new policies, procedures, and regulation provisions to users.
- Master's degree in Health Physics or Medical Physics.
- 5-7 years Full-time practical training and/or supervised experience in medical health physics.
- Minimum one (1) year full-time radiation safety experience serving under the supervision of the individual identified as the radiation safety officer (RSO) on a commission or agreement state license.
- Experience using and performing checks for proper operation of instruments used to determine the activity of dosages, survey meters, and instruments used to measure radionuclides.
- Experience securing and controlling byproduct material and using administrative controls to avoid mistakes in the administration of byproduct material.
- Experience using procedures to prevent or minimize radioactive contamination and using proper decontamination procedures.
- Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) training and competency shall be in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations 10 CFR < 35.
The estimated salary for this position is $157,996 - $318,968, based on the location and responsibilities outlined above.
