The Culinary Services Associate II engages in moderately complex food service tasks during assigned shifts in the Central Kitchen or at satellite locations under general supervision.
Responsibilities include preparing, portioning, distributing, and serving meals for both standard and therapeutic diets, as well as maintaining cleanliness of equipment, workspaces, dishes, utensils, and cookware.
Additional responsibilities may arise that align with the role's functions. This position may also involve training and supervising other culinary staff. It is essential to maintain a thorough understanding of job duties to meet position requirements. Compliance with federal, state, and HACCP guidelines for food handling is mandatory. Candidates must be open to working weekends and holidays and may be required to work unusual or extended hours.
Driving a state vehicle to deliver meals may also be necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
Regular attendance is required, and you may need to adhere to a specific shift schedule or, at times, a rotating schedule, extended shifts, and/or overtime as per agency leave policies while performing other assigned duties.
- Complete required training in accordance with policy.
- Assist in the preparation and portioning of meals for special dietary needs, adhering to food service protocols.
- Prepare scheduled snacks and maintain an adequate supply of snack items.
- Participate in the safe and sanitary distribution of food in line with food service policies.
- Assist in serving meals by following established food service procedures.
- Ensure proper food handling in compliance with food service protocols, state, federal, and HACCP regulations.
- Receive deliveries of food and supplies from vendors as assigned.
- Complete necessary documentation accurately and promptly.
- Adhere to sanitation and storage procedures for dishes and food service equipment.
- Maintain required sanitation practices for cleaning kitchen, storage, food preparation areas, and satellite locations.
- Observe and implement safety procedures and practices.
- Train or assist in training new culinary staff to ensure a knowledgeable workforce.
Additional duties may include participating in or supporting the agency's disaster response and recovery efforts or the activation of the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), which may require alternate shift assignments and/or locations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with food preparation techniques, food storage standards, and sanitation regulations.
- Ability to prepare and serve meals, maintain cleanliness in dining and food preparation areas, and keep accurate records.
- Proficiency in reading and speaking English.
- Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills relevant to cooking and preparation.
- Capability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, and stand/walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
- Capacity to work in varying temperature conditions.
- Ability to utilize senses of smell, taste, and sight effectively.
- Ability to collaborate harmoniously and productively with colleagues and residents.
