POSITION: Senior Financial Accountant

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for the preparation and management of financial documentation to accurately reflect the assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and tax obligations of LA Family Housing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Balance Sheet Reconciliation:
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts, excluding cash and payroll.
  • Perform subledger reconciliations for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
  • Oversee intercompany receivables and payables.
  • Track and reconcile fixed assets.
  • Account for prepaid expenses and deposits.
  • Manage notes receivable and other asset accounts.
  • Record and reconcile accrued expenses, leases payable, and other liabilities.
Statement of Activities Analysis:
  • Conduct thorough analyses of Statement of Activities accounts as designated by management.
Monthly Financial Analysis:
  • Analyze donor-restricted net assets.
  • Prepare and maintain the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA).
General Cost Accounting:
  • Execute general cost accounting tasks and related duties for the organization.
  • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Ensure proper coding of invoices, establish new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close monthly financial records.
Account Reconciliation:
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly, verify deposits, and respond to bank inquiries.
  • Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts.
  • Manage collections for accounts receivable.
Accounts Payable & Invoicing:
  • Verify and process payments for invoices related to accounts payable.
  • Ensure that payments are charged to the correct accounts.
  • Oversee the purchasing and invoicing system.
Audit & Compliance:
  • Assist external auditors by providing necessary account information and documentation for the annual audit.
  • File tax documents with relevant government agencies.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulations.
Software & System Management:
  • Collaborate with software vendors to maintain accounting software systems.
  • Recommend updates to improve accounting software functionality.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform other tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of general financial and cost accounting principles.
  • Ability to comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proficient in preparing tax reports accurately.
  • Skilled in reconciling various balance sheet accounts.
  • Adept at performing detailed account analyses and identifying discrepancies.
  • Proficient in preparing and maintaining financial schedules and reports.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA standards.
  • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Pass post-offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearances.
  • Travel may be required occasionally for this position.
  • Possess a valid California Driver's License and maintain auto insurance in good standing.
  • Ability to work a 9/80 work schedule.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer may be necessary.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant accounting experience is required.
  • Experience with NetSuite is highly desirable.
