Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Co-Responder Paramedic to join our team at the Longmont Department of Public Safety. As a member of our Co-Responder team, you will work closely with mental health clinicians and police officers to provide integrated health services to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to mental health crisis calls and provide assessment and treatment of patients on scene.
  • Engage in de-escalation techniques to calm individuals experiencing a mental health crisis or under the influence of substances.
  • Coordinate with the team to determine the best disposition for patients, taking into account medical, legal, and behavioral health factors.
  • Perform follow-up contacts with patients to ensure they receive necessary care and resources.
  • Examine, screen, treat, and coordinate health services for patients, including post-hospital release follow-up care.
  • Conduct patient education on chronic illness and injury prevention, as well as administer patient care consistent with department protocols and physician orders.
  • Coordinate appointments and follow-ups with physicians and hospitals, and develop and complete reports for the Community Health Program.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and maintain a high level of professionalism in all interactions.
Working Environment

This role requires the ability to work in diverse environments, including patient residences, and may involve exposure to stress, blood-borne pathogens, and contagious diseases. The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and the public, and possess strong problem-solving and judgment skills.

Requirements
  • A minimum of five years' experience as a Paramedic.
  • Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License, State of Colorado EMT-P Certificate, and American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Card.
  • Possession of a valid American Heart Association ACLS and PALS Cards within three months of hire.
  • Possession of a Community Paramedic (CP-C) endorsement on State of Colorado EMT-P Certificate or ability to obtain CP-C certification within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years' experience in a 911 EMS system.
