Job Summary:

As an Optical Sales Associate at Kaiser Permanente, you will provide exceptional customer service and sales support to patients and members. You will work under direct supervision to determine patients' eyewear needs, advise on lens style, color, and material, and price eyeglass orders according to their Health Plan coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine patients' occupational, lifestyle, and cosmetic needs
  • Advise and recommend lens style, color, and material, and frame shape, color, and material
  • Price eyeglass orders according to patients' Health Plan coverage
  • Provide measurements for spectacle fabrication using PD ruler, pupilometer, and lens clock
  • Apply principles of size, thickness, and power in selecting proper eyewear
  • Know the impact of different lens indexes and recommend appropriate alternatives
  • Provide ophthalmic eyewear services by selling, fitting, ordering, dispensing, adjusting, and repairing spectacles
  • Measure and shape lens and adjust frames using ophthalmic equipment
  • Inspect patients' eyewear using ANSI Z80.1 standards and tolerances
  • Perform quality check functions and review patients' previous prescriptions
  • Follow through on emergency orders and perform limited Contact Lens services
  • Determine patient concerns and recommend actions to be taken
  • Maintain attractive frame and lens displays and keep track of backorder products

Requirements:

  • Minimum one year demonstrated sales experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to perform quality check functions and knowledge of customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, and written communication
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications
  • Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone
  • Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail, concentration, and alertness
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate a multitude of issues effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to educate patients and staff on ophthalmic dispensing principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum six months contact lens and optical dispensing experience
  • Post high school coursework/training in Ophthalmic Optics
  • American Board of Opticianry Certified (ABOC) by the American Board of Opticianry (ABO)
