Role of the Site Reliability Engineering Team:The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Team is responsible for designing and constructing the global infrastructure that supports our services. The mission of the SRE Team is to develop this increasingly intricate infrastructure while continuously reducing the operational burden and enhancing our internal visibility into system health.
Key Responsibilities:As the Senior Technical Program Manager for the SRE Team, you will lead strategic technology initiatives that will facilitate the scaling of our cloud services. Your role will include managing a team of Technical Program Managers (TPMs) who will coordinate time, communication, scope, and effort across several key areas:
- Project management
- Engineering operations
- Cross-team dependencies
- Release management
As part of the broader R&D Engineering Technical Program Management team, you will ensure the successful delivery of complex, cross-functional engineering projects through effective processes and deliverables.
Candidate Profile:The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of partnering with stakeholders to manage significant changes within a technical organization. You should possess the ability to break down complex challenges into manageable components and steadily progress towards solutions.
Key qualifications include:
- Extensive experience managing large-scale programs throughout the software development lifecycle, from strategic planning to successful product delivery.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, enabling you to lead with innovative insights.
- Experience collaborating with technical stakeholders to methodically address engineering challenges, including goal setting, prioritization, and project scope definition.
- Exceptional execution and facilitation skills, particularly in ambiguous situations with competing priorities.
- A proactive approach to identifying potential blockers and navigating challenges effectively.
- A history of building successful teams and fostering an environment of trust, collaboration, and intellectual honesty.
You will leverage your deep knowledge of engineering operations and product development to establish a forward-thinking strategy for the programs managed by your TPMs. Your responsibilities will include:
- Modeling strategic and tactical thinking and execution.
- Leading and managing a team of TPMs, inspiring high performers and supporting those who require additional guidance.
- Creating a collaborative atmosphere that encourages learning, creativity, and innovation.
- Removing obstacles that hinder TPM reports and product teams from achieving their objectives.
- Building alignment among cross-functional leaders to advance business goals.
- Serving as a trusted strategic partner for executive management to ensure program success.
- Facilitating engineering discussions by utilizing your technical aptitude and analytical skills to clarify complex trade-offs and streamline decision-making.
Applicants should have:
- 7-10 years of experience managing complex technical initiatives and engineering programs from inception to completion.
- At least 1 year of experience in a managerial role.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Familiarity with MongoDB or similar technologies.
- Experience in technical design discussions with the ability to summarize complex trade-offs and priorities.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude and strong analytical skills with a record of successful outcomes.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to various audiences.
Within the first few months, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of MongoDB products and the SRE team. Over time, you will lead multiple cross-team projects, driving personal growth and business impact.
