Job Summary:

The Industrial Safety and Hygiene Specialist II is responsible for implementing and administering project industrial safety and hygiene programs affecting employee, public safety, and occupational health. This role serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work to protect self, others, and the environment.
  • Provide technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety, and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.
  • Identify workplace hazards throughout operations and maintenance activities in an operating industrial facility.
  • Develop appropriate hazard controls and mitigation strategies and provide oversight of work activities to ensure controls are effectively implemented.
  • Support worker safety and health needs, including injury and event response and case management.
  • Ensure effective implementation of safety and health rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Actively participate in pre-task and safety meetings.
  • Perform incident/event investigations and prepare associated reports.
  • Maintain current knowledge of specific government agency requirements.
  • Determine and develop approaches to solutions.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, correspondence, and program compliance documents.
  • Establish and maintain permits as required.
  • Meet applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.
  • Assist in the development of IS&H training programs and conduct IS&H training meetings as necessary.
  • Perform analysis of IS&H data.
  • Train and assist subordinate IS&H specialists in sampling and assessment methodologies.
  • Conduct and assist projects with sampling, monitoring, data interpretation, and occupational health surveys to ensure compliance with established programs.

Requirements:

  • University Hire with degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related science or engineering field with less than 1 year of experience or 4-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in a nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing, or petroleum refining environment is preferred.
  • Experience in an operating facility is preferred.
