San Jose, California, United States Bonsai Robotics Full time
About Bonsai Robotics

Bonsai Robotics is dedicated to revolutionizing agricultural machinery efficiency by developing a novel ecosystem of semi-autonomous robotic systems. Orchards present unique challenges, including dust, hazards, and lack of GPS signals. Traditional GPS-based autosteer technologies that enhance row crop efficiencies are not applicable in these environments. Our vision, combined with advanced AI and machine control systems, provides human-like environmental comprehension and local navigation capabilities, setting the stage for a new era of innovation in agricultural production and management. Our cutting-edge technology enables orchard managers to streamline their operations, significantly lower operational costs, and boost profitability.

Position Overview:

Bonsai is on the lookout for interns with a keen interest in robotics simulation. The ideal candidate should possess a foundational understanding and some practical experience (gained through academic pursuits, internships, personal projects, etc.) in developing simulation software. In this position, you will contribute to the core technology of Bonsai by creating a reliable vehicle core software platform capable of deploying, executing, and monitoring the comprehensive software stack for agricultural and off-road robots.

Key Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program or higher in computer science, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related robotics field.
  • Prior experience in robotics or autonomous systems through internships, team projects, clubs, or previous employment.
  • Familiarity with Gazebo or similar simulation tools.
  • Experience in working with, deploying, and configuring headless Linux systems.
  • Proficient in Python and C++ with CMake.
  • Experience with ROS2.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in delivering pure-C software.
  • Knowledge of Docker.
  • Familiarity with SystemD.
  • Experience with Blender and CAD software such as Solidworks.
  • Understanding of AWS Cloud Infrastructure: S3, EC2, etc.
Responsibilities:

Bonsai Robotics has identified various short-term projects suitable for interns at all experience levels. Potential project areas include:
  • Collaborating with the Robotics/Platform team to enhance Bonsai's simulation software.
  • Developing plugins for the simulation environment.
  • Improving the build system, deployment processes, health monitoring, and orchestration for the robot application through simulation.
  • Creating Developer Experience workflows in simulation to expedite development and testing.
  • Working alongside Robotics, Computer Vision, and Cloud engineers to integrate these systems in simulation through standardized interfaces.
Bonsai Robotics is committed to diversity, inclusivity, and excellence in our hiring practices, and we strongly encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds to apply. Join us in transforming the future of agriculture through innovative technology and advancements.
