Job Summary

Castalia Systems is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in supporting a U.S. Government customer on a large mission-critical development and sustainment program. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, designing, and developing automated cloud-based requirements and architectures, as well as developing derived requirements and systems engineering artifacts into advanced cloud infrastructure, management, and operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing Systems Engineering project leadership in support of a large, leading-edge cybersecurity system.
  • Coordinating teams in the development, integration, and testing of advanced leading-edge cybersecurity, with the assistance of the Design & Development Lead and Chief Engineer.
  • Interfacing directly with the Customer, stakeholders, and end-users regarding priorities, capability architectures, requirements, use cases, and stories to derive, develop, and decompose next-cycle updates and specifications.
  • Representing the voice of the user in development.
  • Collaborating within Agile Release Trains and Agile Teams.
  • Supporting risk assessments and developing risk mitigation countermeasures.
  • Providing Systems Engineering expertise and leadership in support of a large cybersecurity system.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field.
  • 10+ years of directly relevant systems engineering experience, including allocation of hardware and software requirements, development of use cases and stories, detailed design of system components, and direct automation and orchestration experience with larger systems.
  • 6+ years of direct experience with Google Cloud deployment and management tools.
  • Proven leadership skills and meaningful experience successfully leading large teams.
  • Able to effectively work as a leader, in a group, or as an independent individual contributor.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment in a leadership role.
  • Possesses or quickly develops a comprehensive understanding of Government Information Security policies, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Expertise in automation of infrastructure - deployment, configuration, and orchestration.
  • Direct experience with scripting in JSON, YAML, HCL, Python, Bash/PSH, and/or CloudFormation/Terraform.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience crafting and actively managing a Google Cloud environment is a priority.
  • Experience leading teams and projects at either the tech lead or product owner level.
  • Familiarity with Jenkins, Artifactory, Jira, Git, Ansible, Chef, AWS Lambda, Terraform, or Cloud Native tools like Cloud Formation.
  • Programming experience (Java, Javascript,.Net, Python, or Ruby).
  • Familiarity with using, updating, and programmatically manipulating Linux and Windows.
  • Experience with NTP, DNS, Networking, LDAP, or Software repositories.
  • Experience with branching and release strategies, CI/CD Pipelines.
  • AWS cloud technology knowledge and implementation experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing event-driven microservice architectures.
  • Experience in technical oversight of individuals and projects.
  • Experience working in DevOps and/or DevSecOps environments.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) knowledge and experience.
Desired Certifications
  • Agile software development methodology certification (e.g. SAFe Practitioner or higher).
  • Google Cloud Certification.
  • DoD IAT Level I or II (e.g. CISSP).
