Lead Operations Ranger

GENERAL OVERVIEW
This role is situated within a premier park, renowned for its rich archaeology, history, diverse flora and fauna, and recreational opportunities. The position is crucial in maintaining facilities that attract numerous visitors annually and educating them on the importance of preserving this unique environment.
Under the guidance of the Park Superintendent, this role involves advanced supervisory responsibilities in maintenance and construction activities. The individual will lead the maintenance team and park volunteers, providing direction, organizing work schedules, and assisting with daily upkeep and repairs of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
As the designated Utility Plant Operator (UPO), the incumbent will oversee routine maintenance, ensure compliance with regulations, and manage repairs related to the park's water system and other utilities as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare reports and train staff on maintenance protocols.
- Perform general maintenance and custodial tasks.
- Handle purchasing, revenue collection, and permit issuance.
- Provide visitor orientation and exceptional customer service.
- Enforce park regulations through voluntary compliance.
- Engage in resource management and educate visitors about the park's natural and cultural assets.
- Work independently with a significant degree of initiative and judgment.
- Complete additional duties as assigned, adhering to all relevant rules and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: High School diploma or GED.
- Experience: A minimum of four years in facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance, including two years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Licensure: Valid State driver's license required. Must obtain a class 'D' Water and/or Wastewater license from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in public engagement and customer service.
- Familiarity with water and wastewater systems.
- Background in public parks or historic sites focused on resource conservation.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Expertise in construction, repair, and maintenance techniques, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and mechanical repairs.
- Knowledge of resource preservation and management principles.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide high-quality customer service.
- Capacity to train and lead team members effectively.
- Skill in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Competence in using various tools and equipment safely and effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is conducted in a public park setting, requiring flexibility in scheduling.
- Must be prepared for outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Physical demands include lifting materials up to 50 lbs.
- Travel may be required for training purposes.
