About the Role

We are seeking a highly qualified Corrections Captain to join our team at the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals looking to advance their careers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff members in maintaining a safe and secure environment within adult correctional facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures, as well as compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote rehabilitation and reentry programs for offenders.
  • Collaborate with other departments to share best practices and improve overall operations.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of experience in a correctional or penal institution with responsibility for security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders.
  • One year of experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.
Substitutions

The following may be considered in lieu of the required experience:

  • One year of continuous employment in any field of work will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.
  • Law enforcement experience (e.g., State Police, deputy, or police officer) which must be gained after Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification OR experience as a military police officer will substitute for the general required experience on a month for month basis.
  • Supervisory experience in a law enforcement position (State Police, deputy, police officer, or military police officer) will substitute for the required specialized experience on a month for month basis.
