Key Responsibilities- Assist in Surgical Operations: Under the general direction of a licensed caregiver, you will assist in surgical operations, preparing operating rooms, arranging equipment, and assisting with procedures.
- Ensure Smooth Teamwork: You will be responsible for ensuring smooth teamwork through the application of knowledge and effective communication with registered nurses, patients, surgeons, anesthesiologists, ancillary personnel, and other healthcare team members.
- Provide Care Consistent with Standards: You will provide care consistent with CSMC and accrediting bodies' standards, maintaining competency skills, including the ability to provide care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Coordinate In-Services and Training: You will coordinate in-services in collaboration with educators and team leaders, perform the preceptor role for surgical technology students and new hires, and assist coworkers in the orientation of department processes.
- Improve Efficiency and Cost: You will help improve efficiency and cost in surgical units, participate in developing budgetary requirements, and participate in decision-making activities related to evaluating and acquiring surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
- Promote Patient Care and Safety: You will demonstrate active involvement in department committees and unit in-services, promoting patient care and safety, and participate in unit staff meetings, providing constructive input to assist in unit direction, problem-solving, and problem resolution.
- Prepare Operating Rooms and Assist with Procedures: You will prepare operating rooms for surgery, assist with turning over the operating room, arrange instruments according to a given procedure, confirm that instruments work properly and are sterilized, and maintain the availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays.
- Assist Surgeons during Surgery: You will assist surgeons during surgery by passing instruments and other sterile supplies, assist with skin stapling, and step on ESU pedals.
- Perform Intraoperative Count and Label Medication: You will perform appropriate intraoperative count (instruments, sponges, needles), and label all medication.
- Prepare Patients for Surgery: You will prepare patients for surgery, such as washing and disinfecting incision sites, transport patients to and from surgery, and demonstrate clinical competency and technical skills for general and special populations.
- Education: High school diploma/GED and vocational/technical diploma are required.
- Work Experience: Three years of experience in surgical procedures are required.
- Licensure and Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification is preferred.
