Join Our Team as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Ducommun is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to enhance our engineering team. This role is integral to our operations, focusing on the design and development of innovative sealing solutions for the aerospace sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and analysis of mechanical rotary face seals utilized in aerospace secondary power systems and related markets.
  • Engage in 3D modeling, drafting, reverse engineering, and component selection to support product development.
  • Provide comprehensive engineering, manufacturing, and project management assistance.
  • Assess product performance, parts, and processes for effectiveness and reliability.
  • Design and execute testing protocols, including test rig development and data collection.
  • Compile and present data-driven engineering reports for stakeholders.
  • Analyze customer design requests, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility and maintenance requirements.
  • Collaborate with various departments, customers, and suppliers as necessary.
  • Contribute to the refinement of engineering processes and documentation.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to processes and products to support customer needs.
  • Exhibit integrity and professionalism in alignment with Ducommun's core values.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and initiative to achieve project goals.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to foster strong internal and external relationships.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, CAD software (SolidWorks), and project management tools for efficient task execution.
  • Embrace complex engineering challenges with a positive and innovative mindset.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with 5-8 years of relevant experience in mechanical seals.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and FEA using SolidWorks or similar software is preferred.
  • Experience with testing mechanical rotary face seals or similar equipment is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with various sealing concepts and practices is essential.
  • General knowledge of gearboxes, transmissions, and related accessories is beneficial.
  • Understanding of AS9100 and ITAR regulations is a plus.
  • Local candidates are preferred.
