Position Summary:

The Operational Automation & Data Technician will be responsible for the administration, configuration, design, programming, and qualification of various automation systems, while also addressing any issues that may arise. This role serves as the primary engineering support, focusing on investigating and resolving challenges related to processes, equipment, and system integration. Collaboration with operational and maintenance teams is essential to ensure that automation systems and processes are designed and executed sustainably. Additionally, this position will involve training staff on equipment processes and continuously monitoring for compliance and improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and maintain automation manufacturing equipment.
  • Create work instructions for critical operational equipment to standardize practices across different lines and shifts.
  • Install, maintain, and upgrade automation systems at key stages of the production process.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning components within the automation systems.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to assess equipment usage, manage parts replacement, and schedule maintenance for optimal performance.
  • Adhere to established GMP work instructions and procedures.
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, onsite IT, and leadership teams.
  • Conduct audits of data collection tools and processes to ensure data integrity.
  • Support plant management and teams in enhancing operational excellence through hands-on process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in daily and weekly data reporting by capturing and cleaning data.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance processes, optimize performance, and reduce costs.

Qualifications:

  • A two-year associate degree in industrial, electrical, automation, or a related field is required.
  • 1.5+ years of relevant experience with sensors, checkweighers, labelers, and vision systems in a GMP manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience in leading or collaborating with a team to integrate production systems and machinery.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with all team members.
  • Experience in auditing systems, diagnosing, and resolving initial issues while coordinating with maintenance teams for root cause analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to function effectively in a GMP-compliant team environment.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Familiarity with Windows and MS Office, particularly strong Excel skills, including VBA programming and advanced features.
  • Ability to interpret safety procedures, operating instructions, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience with automated filling, packaging, and palletizing systems is advantageous.
  • Self-starter with the capability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues across various hardware and software platforms.
  • Experience with Digital Production Systems, labeling systems, and Checkweighers is a plus.
  • Work environment includes plant, warehouse, and production areas.
  • This position may require flexible work hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work in low-temperature environments and tolerate typical manufacturing plant noise levels.
