Position Summary:

The Operational Automation & Data Technician will be responsible for the administration, configuration, design, programming, and qualification of various systems, while addressing any issues that may arise. This role will primarily serve as the first line of engineering support, focusing on investigating and resolving challenges related to processes, equipment, and integration. The technician will collaborate closely with both the operational and maintenance teams to ensure that automation equipment and processes are designed and executed sustainably. Additionally, this position will involve training on equipment processes and ongoing monitoring for compliance and improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and maintain equipment for automation in manufacturing processes.
  • Create work instructions for critical operational equipment to promote standardization across production lines and shifts.
  • Install, maintain, and replace automation systems at essential stages of the production workflow.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning components within the automation systems.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to assess equipment usage, parts replacement, and scheduled maintenance to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Adhere to established GMP work instructions and procedures.
  • Work in partnership with operations, maintenance, onsite IT, and leadership teams.
  • Perform audits on data collection tools and processes to guarantee data integrity.
  • Assist plant operation management and teams in enhancing operational excellence through hands-on process improvement initiatives.
  • Support daily and weekly data reporting through data collection and analysis.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance processes, optimize performance, and reduce costs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A two-year associate degree in industrial, electrical, automation, or a related field is required.
  • At least 1.5 years of relevant experience with sensors, checkweighers, labelers, and vision systems in a GMP manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience in leading or collaborating with a team on the integration of production systems and machinery.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with all team members.
  • Experience in auditing systems, diagnosing, and resolving initial issues while coordinating with maintenance teams for root cause analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a GMP-compliant team environment, engaging productively with all levels of management and operational personnel.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Proficiency in Windows and MS Office, particularly in Excel, including skills in VBA programming and advanced Excel functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, Macros).
  • Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural/equipment manuals.
  • Experience with automated filling, packaging, and palletizing systems is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, identifying, diagnosing, and resolving issues across various hardware and software platforms.
  • Familiarity with Digital Production Systems (Redzone), labeling systems (Video Jet), and Checkweighers (LOMA/Fortress) is a plus.
  • This role may require flexibility in work hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work in environments with low temperatures and typical manufacturing plant noise levels.
