Job Title: Patient Observation Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Patient Observation Assistant to join our team at Compass Group Careers. As a Patient Observation Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients.

Job Summary:

The Patient Observation Assistant will provide visual and audible observation of assigned patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) and unit manager. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor patients' conditions and behavior at all times.
  • Complete observation reports at established intervals.
  • Take initiative in rendering service or responding to patients' needs.
  • Interact hospitably, cheerfully, and supportively with staff, patients, visitors, and work colleagues.
  • Remain at the bedside of assigned patients at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
  • Verbally redirect patients from engaging in at-risk behaviors.
  • Seek help or advice as soon as possible when patients appear to be in medical distress or pose a threat.
  • Participate in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
  • Assist in calming and/or reorienting patients in cases of agitation or confusion.
  • Assist with keeping patients' rooms safe and orderly.
  • Accompany patients when diagnostic testing is required.
  • Immediately summon nursing staff if patients require assistance, control, or other nursing interventions.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Current CPR AED or basic life Support healthcare provider (BLS-HCP) certification required within 30 days of hire, if required at the facility.
  • Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Requires bending, stooping, reaching up, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • One to two years of previous experience preferred.
