Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the coordination of animal adoptions and transfers, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for both animals and adopters.
  • Maintain daily shelter operations, including caring for impounded animals, performing technical and clerical duties, and supporting field operations as needed.
  • Process domestic animals and livestock brought to the shelter, including redeeming animals to their owners, processing unclaimed animals for adoption or rescue, and assisting with animal transfers to humane rescue organizations.
  • Provide basic animal care, including bathing, feeding, and observing animal behavior, as well as transporting animals to veterinarians for medical testing and treatment.
  • Clean and sanitize kennels and cages, including food bowls and litter pans, and perform routine maintenance of shelter facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily work activities and inventory on Animal Services software.
  • Feed and water animals daily, ensuring clean eating and drinking conditions.
  • Euthanize or assist with the euthanasia of animals in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Transport animals as needed, and respond to emergency situations as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the insurance provider.
  • Certification as an Euthanasia Technician or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications within six months of employment.
  • Oleoresin capsicum (OC) Technician certification within six months of employment.
  • Bite Stick certification within six months of employment.
  • Ability to work alone or with others, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, operate a truck, truck and trailer, and small bus, and inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
  • Ability to deal with animals and people under stress.
Working Conditions

This position requires working inside and outside in varying weather conditions, with noise and dust. You will work on uneven, slippery surfaces and heights, and may be exposed to parasites, dead and/or diseased animals, and moving objects and vehicles.
